Help required: Dummies Guide to 3D rendering

Hi,

Having spent a good chunk of time recently searching for answers I've given up and decided to ask the question here instead.

I have been given a file with the suffix .m2ts - it's a 3D stereoscopic presentation. My desire is to be able to render my own 3D efforts into this format. Which I can... sort of, but with two notable deficiencies. The file I was given plays back nicely as 2D on my PC... which doesn't have 3D capability. When I copy the file to USB and plug into my LG 3D smart TV when selected, the TV immediately detects 3D content and plays back accordingly... i.e in 3D!

My problem is that the .m2ts files II render do not do this. They simply render as half SBS (as per project settings), and therefore playback on my PC as such... i.e half SBS. When my render is played back on my 3D TV the TV doesn't automatically detect 3D and I therefore have to manually switch the TV into 3D half SBS mode.

I've been unable to find anywhere a tutorial or instruction for 'dummies' that details the necessary settings and procedure required in Movie Studio ( ver 12 or 13) so that I too can render files like the one I was given. Just wondering if anyone here can shed any light on the topic?

Cheers. :).

Are you outputting your video as a Sony MVC file?

I have tried rendering to .mvc but I don't know what to do with that file? I certainly don't own anything that can play it on my PC. And it's not a supported format on the TV.

My desired goal is to be able to produce a file from MS that plays back as 2D on my non-3D PC, but when plugged into a USB port on my 3D TV is automatically detected as 3D content and plays back accordingly. I know it's possible because I have such a file... as mentioned, the .m2ts that I was given.

MVC is designed to play 3D on 3D devices and 2D on 2D devices.

I guess I was under the impression you had a 3D TV and player. I'm not sure what to suggest if your devices can't play MVC.

I'm still investigating but it seems that the .mt2s file in question, one that behaves like an .mvc, was created with Cyberlink Power Director. It's clear to me now that MS cannot render files with these attributes, but whether I want to spend $$ on Power Director just for this convenience is somewhat moot.

I'm using the inbuilt play capabilities of both the TV itself and a Philips Bluray player, via USB..
