HELP! Sony MS 11 Not Working With Windows 8

skusey wrote on 12/3/2012, 4:14 AM
Just upgraded to Windows 8 and wishing I hadn't!

When I try to open Sony MS HD Platinum 11, I get the following error message;

Microsoft .NET runtime could not be initialized. Error 0x80131700 (message missing). Failed to initialize the common language runtime engine.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times (rebooting computer each time) and have even downloaded the latest version from my Sony account page, but always with the same result.

I tried to download .NET4 in desperation, but was told I already had it on my system.

I'm stumped.

Anyone got any ideas?

Any help much appreciated.

Pete :)

It gets worse!

Just downloaded the free trial of Sony MS 12 and everything installed fine, but when I started it up, got the following error message;

'Failed to initialize script host'

Any one have any clue what the hell is going on?

I've used Sony MS for years without any problem until now.

Damn you Windows 8!!!!

Hi. I'm no "expert," you know, one who knows more and more about less and less...but can offer a few things for you to check. Do you have Apple Quick Time installed? Have you updated ALL your system drivers?

It would probably help if you said something about your hardware.

Just out of curiosity, what made you decide to upgrade? I've looked into it too, as I could get the upgrade to Win8 for just $15 and chose not to, based on expert and user reviews and comments. I'm just wondering what made you opt for it.

Any way, don't know if my pointers will help, but good luck!

Movie Studio 11 probably needs .NET 3.0 or 3.5. Try installing that.

Running Win 8 64 bit? Which versions of VMS (32/64) are you installing? I have VMS12 64 bit running fine on Win 8 64 bit.
