Help! Stuck in scrub hell

pghdog wrote on 2/28/2004, 6:14 PM
I have been editing away for the last month on a project with a tight deadline. Suddenly I have done some unknown thing that has brought me to a complete standstill.

When I hit the spacebar, intending to play along the timeline, the file does not play, rather the little scrub thing jumps back and forth. I have searched the help section but can not find a way out of this.

Does anyone know what is up.

Thanks
pghdog.

Is it in a loop with the loop button pressed?

No. No matter where I put the cursor on the timeline, it refuses to play. Each time I hit the spacebar the scrub control jumps backward or forward between 0.00 and 1.00.

Does it do this in every veg file or just this?

In any case... what happens when you press the "L" key (of the J-K-L" jog/shuttle feature.

I have just found that it is doing this in every file that I open. Even when I hit the play arrows nothing happens. The scrub thing does not move when I hit the play arrows but the file does not play.

A couple of thoughts. Under Options - Preferences..., do you have "Use Linear Scrub Range" checked? There are a couple of other options under there having to do with scrub. Does checking/unchecking them make any difference to the behavior?

When I hit the L, the rate increases. It decreases when I hit the J.

No. Changing the preferences does nothing. However, the control scrub setting causes the little two pointer deal to come up no matter which way it is set in preferences, however it does not actually scrub, again the rate control just moves around. i have never used "control/scrub" so am not so sure about it.

Just to get it out of the way, do you have a spare keyboard? Swap them.

Yeah! Yah, beat me to it . . . rmack350 . . I too was thinking maybe . .you could also try seeing if the "space" bar operates as it should in other s/w. Spilt any coffee lately? - G

Yeah, well, don't need to ask why this would occur to me, do we?

When I rebooted this morning, the file I was in when the problem developed was still not functioning but the other files were working normally. I don't know what happened or how the file became corrupt. I'll just have to watch it.
Thanks,
