HELP! Trial version of vegas has hijacked my movi

I recently tried the free trial of the sony vegas movie studio. I previously used Vegas 6 to edit my movies. (Yes, I know how terribly old this is. lol) The free trial has expired but now when I try to open past files in vegas 6, I get a popup that reminds me that the trial is expired! Uggggh! The trial version seems to have hijacked all of my previous files! The new Vegas logo appears on all of my old files now. I intend to purchase the new software but, until then, this has stopped me from working on any of my previous projects.

So here is my question.... How do I get my old movie projects to open in vegas 6?

This is very frustrating and may very well derail my decision to continue w the Sony line of products. This feels very much like a type of hostage/ransom maneuver on Sony's part.

I hope someone can provide a fix and derail this type of conspiracy thinking. Thank you in advance. :)

It looks as if you've overwritten your original project files when you saved using the trial version. It's always recommended when working old projects with a newer version of Vegas that you immediately Save As to a different file name.
If this is the case I think that you are stuck with the situation. As far as I know there is no way of opening new vf files with old versions of the software.
There will no doubt be more knowledgeable contributors who can explain exactly why newer versions of project files cannot be opened with older versions of the software but if you consider the massive difference between Vegas 6 and MSP13 you can sort of understand why this can't be done.

When you say "Vegas 6", are you talking about Vegas Movie Studio 6? The "old" files you are referring to are ".vf" files, right? And are you trying to double-click the old .vf file to edit it?

If this is the case, hopefully it's just that your system is set to open .vf files in the trial version of Movie Studio. You need to redirect it back to your old version 6.

In Windows 7, the procedure is something like this: Locate one of your .vf files, right-click on it, select "Open With" (not just the normal "Open" command), then click on "Choose default program". Now you can tell windows to use your older program to open those files. The next time you double-click on a .vf file, it should again open in the older version.

If that doesn't work, maybe someone has other thoughts.

And, like Jack S says, if you worked on old files and saved them with the newer version, they won't be able to be opened in the old version any longer, as the newer version probably has data that the old version doesn't understand.

For the sake of anyone else that may experience this...Some additional details.....

Yes, I was speaking about movie studio 6, and no, I never worked on any of my old movies in the trial version. I just produced a couple of new ones w the trial download to see how I liked it. However, the trial version did apparently attach itself to all of the .vf files in my computer and yes, when I attempted to open them by double clicking, it tried to open w the now expired trial copy. (scared me to death! :)
