HELP!!!!! un-ending problem - with ext.Prev.

FrigidNDEditing wrote on 10/25/2005, 1:55 PM
I have had so many issues with this that I thought were just a prob. with my windows secondary display adapter, but now I'm having trouble with my 1394 preview as well. Basically it shows for a little while, and then whoops - it's gone and no matter how many times I turn the preview on or off, or make changes to the preview settings and apply them, it just won't show. It will hang for a sec. like it's initializing, but then it doesn't show up at all - I've used a camcorder to see if it's the preview device and it won't even show on the camcorder display - all my settings are correct, and the camcorder has pass-thru.

PLEASE HELP ME - I've got a wedding I need to get coco'd and I can't get it on my production monitor to fine tune - any help will be appreciated.

Dave

I'm sure you've checked the obvious "enable DV device control" and turned it off, right?

edit ...
Hmmm. That probably doesn't apply to preview. But then, if by chance you've got VidCap open at the same time, it might interfere.

This has been an ongoing problem for me in Windows 2000 (Vegas 5), but not in XP. What OS are you using?

All settings are correct and it even works for abit but then it quits and doesn't start up again.
I'm using XP
1 GIG of Ram
3.2 HT P4 Proc
Vegas 6.0c
OHCI compliant IEEE1394 device
no idea what the problem is.

BTW - not only does it happen with firewire, it also happens with windows secondary display. (windows makes the screen - but it doesn't display via the output).

Have you checked your system IRQs for sharing?
Using motherboard 1394 or separate card? If it's IRQ is sharing your video or raid controller IRQ, you may have a lot of clashing.

I am using an onboard 1394.

No clue if it's IRQ sharing issue or not - but I can say that I've got no Raid controller etc...

My secondary monitor function with Vegas 6c is currently working, but I've had a little trouble with this as well (starting with the 6"c" revision of Vegas). I'm really careful now if I want to switch from "secondary monitor preview" to "1394 preview" to always set the preview method to "none" first, then set the alternate method afterwards rather than going directly from one method to the other. This seems to help.

Before this I had problems with the preview window being the wrong size, my system crashing when I turned on the secondary preview, or the secondary screen being blank. Lately I'm really careful not to go directly from one mode to the other and it's been working for quite a while.

Also, Vegas 6c became much more stable when I lowered the number of processes it could work on at once. I don't remember the exact setting, but it was somewhere in the preferences.

Doesn't help - I've got almost no luck at this point with secondary display via windows and Vegas. However I don't know what's going on here at all - how do I check the IRQ sharing?

Alright - I reset the preview device settings to default, and it shows up now - on IEEE - haven't tried with secondary display - but can a windows secondary out an S-Vid adapter be trusted for COCO? - I'm hoping it would cuz it's more responsive and not as processor intensive (or so it would seem) and would make life easier :)
