Help! Vegas crash . . . again!

drbam wrote on 10/7/2002, 11:39 PM
I've got another crash with Vegas 3.0c which seems similar to one I had a couple of months ago (although I never did figure out what the problem was). I started mixing a song (about 16 tracks and only 2 plugins (Wavearts Masterverb and a Waves delay-both assignable efx). About 2:05 into playing the track I get an exception occurred error message (copied below). I haven't got a clue what's up with this. Everything has been rock solid and running flawlessly for the past 2 months while mixing this project. I recently added a new track (which I tried muting but this did not help). Any suggestions or comments are very much welcomed.
My system:
Windows 98SE
AMD 1.33 Tbird CPU
Asus A7V266 motherboard
256 meg DDR ram
IBM 20 gig 7200 IDE system drive
IBM 40 gig 7200 IDE data drive
Layla 24 interface (latest drivers).

If you temporarily remove the Waves plugs, do you still crash?

<<If you temporarily remove the Waves plugs, do you still crash? >>

I'm going to experiment with this later this morning. I'm using Waves 3.5 with the latest Pace drivers so I don't think Waves are the issue. I will also follow Dave's suggestions (from August) about saving as another session, deleting/muting certain files, etc. The last time this happened (if this is the same problem) I could only speculate that there was some corruption somewhere within the project. I never was able to determine what or where it was and neither could Dave. If I started playing the session somewhere in the middle for a few seconds and did this 2 or 3 times, then the session would generally (not everytime) play all the way through without crashing and I finally got the mix I needed. Definitely a real pain!!!!!
I'll post updates as I have them. Thanks for your support!

I deleted some unused tracks and the Waves plugin, *saved as* to a new session and all seems ok so far. Have been doing some editing and running it fairly hard with no further crashing. In hindsight I suppose I should have deleted the files one at a time because I'm not sure now what was causing the problem. I just wanted to get on with mixing this thing! ;-) Anyway, I've been using the Waves plugs on several other sessions (songs) in this project with no problems but I've heard that they can cause conflicts with no particular pattern. I know this was true of the pre- 3.5 versions. Anyone else experiencing any problems with 3.5?

Thanks,
