Help! Vegas Pro 22.0 (Build 122) do not want to import any video files

Maximilian-Goof wrote on 10/28/2024, 2:07 PM

I downloaded the trial version of the program on my PC and it is not able to run any video. I work mainly with interlaced PAL SD 25fps footage in MPEG-2 format. And every time when I try to import such file, pop up this window:

Same happens when try to import video with other formats and codecs like MKV FFV1 8-bit 4:4:4.

I tried everythng that came to my mind. Reinstalling the app, changing settings of template to match with parameters of imported videos like resolution set to 576x720, FPS 25, interlaced bottom field first, pixel aspect ratio set to PAL DV and so on. Also in Options<Preferences<Video set GPU acceleration to optimal (in my case Nvidia RTX A4000). Nothing helps.

My system specs are:

Windows 11Pro

AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

32Gb DDR5 5600MHz

2 TB NVMe SSD

Nvidia Quadro RTX A4000

Could you provide a sample piece of media that you are having problems with?

I can make Vegas crash with the same interlaced file(h.264 not mpeg2) that crashes all Vegas's, but it probably happens because it's from a DVR and doesn't start on an I frame, that is a bit unusual but may also be seen from CCTV and Dashcams.

I work with FFV1 intra quicktime in mov wrapper a lot, Vegas has never been able to load the files, I don't think it's compatible with any form of FFV1 even though it's probably the best all around lossless codec when it comes to quality, speed and file size. BUT it shouldn't crash Vegas

@UltraVista

I found that the only way that I could get VP to play that file was to convert to progressive and stereo audio.

"20090227_233739-H.264.m2ts_1080i_interlaced_letterman_sample.mp4"

The GOP of above file seemed kinda normal, nothing leading the 1st. I frame.

Gop length:   [ 32 ]. GOP:  [ IBBBPBBBPBBBPBBBPBBBPBBBPBBBPBBBI ]

ffmpeg reports over a 1000 duplicates and some other error.

One of the reason why I considered to get Vegas Pro was for deinterlacing. And when it is not able to tacle such files I should look elsewhere.
