HELP - VP10e - Render Ignore 2 Tracks

Soniclight wrote on 10/30/2014, 7:02 PM
It's been a long time since I've been here... but here is the issue:

- RAM preview (Shift B) tests as well as in-Vegas preview shows the .PNG alpha sequences of an effect done in PI/Particleillusion (rising field of sparkles/stars). But test or full project WMV or even uncompressed AVI renders ignore/don't render those 2 tracks - both of which are in "Add" mode.

The in-real-time preview of the render also shows the absence of the content of those two tracks I have other tracks in Add as well as Screen, not a problem. None of the tracks have effects or other chains, etc.

I've added a new "virgin" tracks turned them to Add and transferred the files to them, deleted the original tracks, still nuttin'. Even added Composite Envelopes at 100%, same result. Due to the specific and intended interaction between various Add and Screen tracks, I can't change the vertical order of the tracks for it messes things up. I really, really hope this .veg file isn't corrupted for a big pain in the derriere to start all over...

Your assistance is most welcomed.

The few times I've had this happen, it was due to using something other than Best-->Full for the preview resolution. Of course if this is indeed the problem, then when you change the preview setting, the preview will have the same problem as your render and then you'll have to figure out why those tracks get ignored.

Other ideas: are you sure you've set the PNG alpha track correctly? I have a non-standard photo editing program that requires that I specify the alpha channel setting every single time I save the file. Royal PITA.

Since I don't have access to your VEG file, I can't entirely visualize what you are doing, but is "Add" mode the right mode for this?

Thanks for reply.

I tried the setting of in-Vegas preview to Best>Full, Good>Full and... the stars disappear there too; but in Preview>Full they are there (I usually work in Preview>Half as workflow speed).. What is this indicating? I've very rarely had any problems with my PI alpha exports and have used these particular sequences in other projects without this happening. I did go and do a file replace on both events involved and one of them is showing up now, but not the most important one (which I did a Replace twice)..

OK, may have found and indication of the problem. The file that is glitching is 2500 x 650 (but at Match Output Ratio in Pan/Crop) while the one that started working again is the same as the .veg file -- 1920 x 960. But again, I haven't had this problem with this particular PI file in an other project it's in.

Oh, and reason for using Add is for more punch or presence. But since you mentioned this, I tried the track on basic Source Alpha and it changed nothing in terms of this glitch..

OK, so the render gives the results as the Best-->Full Preview. Therefore this is not a glitch or problem with Vegas, but instead is a problem with how your are doing your compositing.

It is tough for me to know what to suggest, but if you have any previous projects that are still on your hard drive where you did something similar, perhaps you can retrieve those and see what you did. I don't composite very often, but when I do, I always have to re-learn the settings to use on the tracks, and remember when I do -- and do not -- need to use the parent/child settings.

Perhaps others can chime in. Now that we know that this is not a Vegas bug, everyone can concentrate on giving advice on settings for your PNG files and for your tracks.

Thanks again, but as 'splained below, looks like I have to do a do-over on the original PNG so that it works (hopefully).

It looks like a combined aspect ratio -- and yes, composting problem. I re-imported it and found out that the moment I matched the output aspect ratio in the file, the glitch happened in terms of completely disappearing. When I left it at original -- 2600 x 650 (it was for rising stars on curvature of the Earth and hence it had to be unusually wide horizontally), stars did appear but outside of the couple of other Add elements in that scene. So...

The best solution for at least the aspect ratio is for me to simply go back into PI and render out a 1920 x 960 or project proportional version. But it may be hopeless in terms of the multiple Add and Screen tracks -- there is most likely some canceling out going on.

In short, it is my problem to solve, so no more input necessary.
