Help with menu transitions

I'm using DVDA 3.0b (Build 123) and according to the the .pdf manual, page 59, a video transition can be added to the root folder of the project so that when a menu button is 'pressed' it plays between a menu or title.

For example, I'd like a transition video to play when I press the 'scene selection' button on the main menu before the scene selection menu is displayed.

I can add a transition video I've created to the root folder OK and can link it to the menu or title I want to play after the transition video using it's end action properties but...I can't get a menu button to link to the transition video. When I select a button, such as 'scene selection', and go to 'action' in the button properties box, the destination is greyed out and can't be edited.

There must be something simple I'm overlooking but I haven't been able to figure out how to edit a menu button to link to the transition video instead of the 'scene selection' menu for example. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Simple, yes. Obvious, no.

Go to the Project Overview window and drag the Scene Selection menu to the root folder. Then drag your transition video to the main menu and link everything accordingly. Be sure to fix the "Return" button on the scene selection menu, if there is one. It'll be broken now because it no longer has a "parent" menu. Just change it to link to the main menu.

Thanks for the help...that did the trick. Certainly not the way it's described in the manual but it does make sense. I put both the main movie and the scene selection menu pages in the root directory, then added two instances of my video transition on the main menu, one linking to the main movie and as text only showing "Play Movie"...and of course did the same for the second instance for the scene selections menu (page 1).

Thanks again...now I'm trying to figure out how to create a transparent highlight seperate from the menu text link that becomes visible when the text link is selected.

I guess either a) there's a bug that prevents you from changing the destination for a menu button (meaning a button leading to a menu) or b) we're not supposed to be able to, but somebody at Sony forgot that. ;-)

See the DVDA New Features document for info on custom menu highlighting. It was written for DVDA 2, but there wasn't a new features doc, I don't think, for DVDA 3, and the info's still good. (That's a direct link to a PDF file, by the way.)
