Help with MPEG-4 / Quicktime

I have a DCR-M1 that records in MPEG-4 format. I use Vegas 5.0 to make family videos for myself and family and I am having a lot of trouble with this new camera. Problem: When I try to put one of my videos into the media pool I get a warning that says: "QuickTime Warning *.MP4 is encoded using an MPEG-4 Profile that QuickTime currently does not support". The warning message comes up at least 3 or 4 times and if I keep clicking OK, I finally get the video in my pool. But sometimes Vegas freezes and I have to ctrl, alt, delete and close, losing what I had done. The message just keeps popping up and doesnt allow me to render the video. Is there a way to disable the warning in QuickTime? Has anyone ran into this problem? Any help will be appreciated.

Have you tried the Quicktime Pro upgrade ($29.95)?

Sorry I didnt include that info. Yes I am using the latest version of QuickTime Pro.

Is your camera the DSC-M1 perhaps?

Have you checked with Sony's tech support for this product what they recommend for an MPEG-4 codec? I would have thought it would come with a CD-ROM with some user software to do something with the videos you shoot.

MPEG-4 isn't cast in concrete yet, not with QT nor with anybody else.

i was half asleep when i posted this. yes i have the dsc-m1. i loaded the software and it only allows you to view the videos or burn to a cd-rom. i am able to play the videos using quicktime and the software that came with camera and also in vegas but the warning message constantly pops up and doesn't let me finish my project.

Could you convert the unusual MPEG-4 codec footage in QT Pro to say AVI and load this into Vegas?

i didnt think of that but that sounds like the perfect solution. I havent ever used QT Pro to convert video files to another format but I assume that will be an option under FIle or Tools or something. If you have the time and can just give me a quick lesson on doing that it will just save me time. I will try to covert the video tonight. Pacific Standard Time.

I figured out how to convert the files to other formats but I lose so much color and smoothness in the videos. I need to find a way to stop getting the warning, since once i get past the warning the videos appear fine in vegas.

Just in case someone else has this problem and needs help I finally found the solution. I purchased this software: MSSW-IC2 Image Converter 2 SoftwareMSSW-IC2 from SonyStyle for $20 and I just covert the MP4 videos from my Cybercam to the MP4 that the software above uses and I no longer get any warning messages. The quality of the converted file is almost identical to the original quality and the software converts the file very fast. Thank you to those that helped, especially suggesting converted the file. I do that all the time with music files but just didnt think of it.
