Help with off-line editing (proxy)

Would anyone know how to use proxy or off-line editing in Vegas 5.0?
I'm going to buy a HD camera from JVC that records 1080x720, but my notebook can't handle to edit a file this big, and i would like to use it on the run.

Is there a way to create proxys to use with vegas 5.0? like the same video but with very lower resolution for editing so it will render the final movie on high resolution?

sure - its easy ..

just run it through virtualdubmod and make a dv or huffyuv file after resizing it with a resize filter ..

i prefer using huffyuv as i need to keep the frame rates i use but dv is fine for 23.976p and 29.97 and pal frame rates ..

you will need to install either or both the huffyuv and dv codec (panasonic or main concept) to use them in virtualdubmod ..

do your editing and then just swap files ..
