Help with pan and crop

Jay Gladwell wrote on 8/4/2003, 7:41 PM
I've scanned several images (photos) of varying size. I'm trying to animate them so they will move across the frame--come in on frame right and exit on frame left. However, some are working better than others.

I place the image on the timeline. Using the pan/crop tool, I reduce the image to the desired size and go to the left then right of the image marking the appropriate key frames as in/out points. Some of the images enter and exit at the frame's edge while others enter and exit well inside the frame's edge (as if they were entering and exiting through slits in the background).

It seems that those that fill the screen horizontally worker better. One would think the smaller ones (that don't fill the screen) would work better.

What's causing this and how to I remedy the problem?

Thanks!

To move images across the screen, use Track Motion, not Pan/Crop.

Come on, Gray, that's too easy! ;o)

Boy oh boy, do I feel stupid or what?

Thank you.

If you want to get more fancy also try the 3d plug-in from Satish. You can then tumble, twist and spin, stuff like that, if you want stuff like that.

Thanks, B.B., haven't needed that yet. Still having minor problems with Track Motion--trying to finesse the movement. As the image moves across the frame (screen), say from right to left, it starts slow, speeds up, then slows as it nears the left-hand edge of the frame.

What I am missing, here?

There's a menu for the keyframes that lets you choose the type of change; like smooth, linear, hold and such.

Well, back to the book. Thanks TorS!

Tried that, and it still starts slow, speeds up, then slows down (changed from Linear to Smooth).

Once you set smooth, you have to set the smoothness level. 100 speeds up, 0 runs steady.
