Help with Text Effect

First, let me say that I've been a follower of this forum for over a year, and have been impressed with the Vegas Pro community - in fact, this forum is one of the main reasons I chose to work in Vegas. This is my first posting, so hello everyone.

I have a project where I need to create the effect of individual letters of a word falling/tumbling/cascading through the fingers of the subject's outstretched hands.

I'm assuming the brute force method is to create a track/layer for each letter of the word and animate them individually. But I'm wondering if there's an easier, more elegant, or efficient way to accomplish this.

I haven't yet needed to use the ProType Titler, so I don't know if it contains tools that would assist with this effect.

Many thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Welcome to the forum.

The ProType Titler has several presets with falling text. Open the Collections and you'll see several presets that have dropping letters. Just start with one of those and modify it to your needs.

Thanks for the quick reply. I inspected the Collections presets, but I'm not sure there's anything there that directly applies to the effect I need to create.

Basically, I need to have each letter of the word to fall away individually and appear to roll and tumble through the subject's fingers - as if the letters were made out of styrofoam, for example.

I'm thinking there's probably no avoiding having to treat each letter as an isolated object and processing the animations individually, which will take some doing.

Thanks again for the suggestion.

welcome to the forum!

are you thinking 3d Styrofoam? then PTT won’t do it

In 2d then PTT is perfect for the job,

is your hand media an alpha channel? a hand with a transparent background?
then you can also use this to displace the text as well

treat your first letter tumble etc then add that to the entire block
if you need a veg file to get an idea we can post one

Yea, it sounds like you need a 3D titling tool. Of course, high-end tools like After Effects and Boris RED can do this. Boris Graffiti can do this too and it more reasonably priced. I know some will recommend Blufftitler which I've never used but hear it's pretty good for the price.

2D should be adequate for this project. Thank you xfx, for your offer of a sample project.

I owe it to myself to get more familiar with PTT. I'll first try to figure it out on my own, and if I hit a dead end, I'll come back here for more help.

Thanks for the responses.
