Help with Vegas Capture Utlility.

I just recieved DSE's DVD today and it's laid out excellent I must say and I would recommend any new or seasoned vets to pick it up as it's laoded with helpful info.
I have been using Vegas for about a year now and I have had a continuous problem with the Vegas Capture utility in either V3 or V4.
The problem is when ever I switch to capture mode in Vegas the response time with my mouse and response from the capture utility slows down consideably. It seems that there is abot a 5 second delay whenever I select something in the capture window.
I have a 1.6 Sony Vaio workstation with a GForce Ti Video card and OHCI firwire out.
4 drives with 3 internal and 1 external.
1024 MB of Ram.
I have a JVC SR-VS30 Deck fed through a Canopus ADVC100 converter box. My ADVC is being fed through my external firewire drive as I wasn't able to use a firewire hub as the system wouldn't recognoize it if there are more than 4 connections.
I am have anti virus disabled as well as most utilities as well.
Any idea why I ONLY have this delayed response in Capture mode only?

Thanks for your help,
Dezine

Please forgive my lack of reference as I forget which help file I read. But when capturing you MUST have you DV firewire directly connected to you computer. You cannot have it attached via a firewire hub. Sorry. If anyone has had this work please prove me and the sonic manual (I believe it was) wrong. But what I got out of it - you have to have it direclty conencted to your firewire card

I've captured from the ADVC100 through my drive. No problem as long as I disable all the network interfaces.

Dezine, the only time I've had this behavior is when I have device control turned on while capturing from the ADVC100. You have to turn it off. Maybe it's something like that?

If you don't have device control via fwire you will get some delay while VV tries talking to things that aren't there.

Actually after some additional testing it seems that the low capture response only happens with my ADVC100 turned on and only in Vegas 4.
My Vegas 3.0 Capture responds fine with my ADVC100 turned on.
So the problem seems to be through Vegas 4.c.
I'll was able to get my ADVC100 to work through a firewire hub that I wasn't able to get to work before so I can take the daisy chaining from the external firewire drive out of the equasion.
I have also tried turning off devise control as well, but get the same slow responsiveness from capture as well.

Thnaks again for the suggestions.
