Help with weird preview problem

I got a call this morning from my wife who uses Vegas 8.0b at her job. She was trying to add an effect (cookie cutter) to a shot and couldn't see it in preview. She tried multiple effects and couldn't see any. Figuring it was "pilot error" I opend my copy of Vegas 8.0b at home and had the same problem. No matter what effect I added to the shots on the timeline, I couldn't see them in the preview window. I have looked at every dropdown, every check box and still can't get the preview window to show any effect. I've been using Vegas here at home since version 3 and never encountered this before. I haven't changed anything that I am aware of, so any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

That include the Split Screen View button (and its FX Bypassed option) above the preview window?

Correct - I can see the FX preview if I go to L or R split screen.

Your problem may be the parameters within the Cookie Cutter plug-in. Try reducing the size of the mask (by dragging the Size slider to the left). Or, start with one of the presets and then customize it.

Okay, so what happens when you disable the Split Screen View button?

Well - it's not just the cookie cutter parameters. No FX show in the preview. If I disable the split screen preview, the FX goes away completely.

This is a bit confusing. If no FX show in the Preview window, how is it that they disappear when you disable FX Bypass?

Sorry if I am not understanding correctly.

I can see the FX on haldf the screen if I click on left or right split screen preview. If I click on anything else, the preview is not visible.

Rather than clicking on the drop-down menu and selecting Right half / Left half / All, click on the button itself to disable it.

Duhhhhh.....pilot error. The ENABLE/DISABLE buttons don't have enough contrast for an old man. That was the cure for me. Now, let me call my wife at work and see if it works for her.
