Hey I should be paid to debug this application!

Another major error found.

After being forced to compromise on what I wanted to have on the DVD I thought I was done messing with DVDA. Not!

I see that DVDA doesn't do house cleaning very well. It reports disc usage at 4.3GB all during the menu and chapter making process. OK, that's within limits assuming that allows for overhead which it doesn't say. Anyways I go ahead. I press make DVD and it now says that 4.3GB that I'm thinking is safe isn't and I'm 108% over limit DVDA claims.

So I press Optimize. Guess what DVDA still "sees" the audio files on all the sub menu pages. The files I DELETED from the project already. On one sub menu page it lists the actual 652K MP3 file as 55MB. On the other five sub menu pages it lists the SAME file five more times at 1.0 MB each. So duh that's part of "overage" all bogus. I try to click on the files in the Optimize window and of course you can't. They don't appear anywhere on the sub menu page BECAUSE I DELETED THEM ALREADY!

So why is this garbage there and how do I get rid of it?

So thinking I made some mistake I play the sub menu pages again just to be sure there is no background music. There isn't. And none is listed, but phantom files are inclued in the Optimize window.

Hey BB ! This stuff is fixed in the update.

What update? I just checked the update page, nothing is listed for DVDA

If you read through these posts, you will see that testers were requested to test a beta of the next update. Supposedly the update will be release within the next week or so and they are no longer taking additional beta testers.

So as I said Sonic Foundy released a very buggy version. Totally unacceptable. How am I suppose to make up for all the time I wasted fooling around with this buggy version?

There is NO excuse for the kind of sloppy programming contained in version one. And for God's sake we're talking build 160. Doesn't anyone at SoFo check anything?

Someone tell me how you get to build 160 in some application with these kind of rank mickey mouse amaturer programming errors?

Acts like a damn Microsoft product.

The Optimize DVD dialog shows you the total size for the asset (i.e. video plus audio). It does not show individual audio files.

The menu that show up as 55 MB length is likely longer than the other menus. You can change the length of your menu by setting the "Menu length" on the Page Properties (on the right-side of app) for the menu.

The estimated percent of space used is based on the size of disc you plan to burn to. You can set the "Space available on media" on the Burning page of the Preferences dialog (Options | Preferences...). Based on the 108% you are seeing, you likely have this currently set to 3.95 GB.

I just checked and my estimated disk space is 3.95. This must be the default when DVD Architect ships. I didn't check preferences for burning and would also have assumed that the default would be 4.7 gigs.
jetdv wrote on 3/17/2003, 10:16 PM
Yes, it seems to default to 3.95 as the default (authoring DVD size) instead of the normal 4.37 Gig. You have to change the configuration to get the correct size.

I think also it would be useful to show how much free disk space remains in addition to what is used, since I assume many times you want to squeeze as much on a disc as possible.
ArysChien wrote on 3/17/2003, 11:05 PM
It depends on the disc you insert, doesn't it? Normally it's 4.7G.
BillyBoy wrote on 3/17/2003, 11:18 PM
There is NO disc interested at this point. You're still in the building phase.
