Hiding things in the video

Douglas-McCarron wrote on 2/21/2025, 2:33 AM

Is there a way to hide objects in a video? I note that there is a Hide from Prodad but from what I read it is a year long license so that sounds like after a year it goes away (or am I wrong?). I know this is bundled if I purchase another Magix video editor but as I have made the jump to Vegas Pro I would like to stay within one system. This is one of the few add on's I would find useful.
If you know of other add on's I should be concerned with let me know. I have a lot of New Blue and Ignite effects from my other Magix software that cross over (like 80% of them) so some works some don't. Or does New Blue have such an effect? Trying to learn before I buy.

thank you

@Douglas-McCarron Hi, looking online -

A "proDAD Hide 1 year license" refers to a one-year subscription to use the "proDAD Hide" video editing plugin, which allows you to automatically remove unwanted objects from your video footage, like people walking through the frame, for a period of one year from the purchase date; essentially, you can use the software's features to digitally "hide" distracting elements in your videos for a year before needing to renew the license.

& going to their website the 'Full Version' doesn't show a perpetual licence, only this 1 year one.

-------

It might depend on what you're 'hiding'?,

There's a couple of other programs I've heard of - Logoaway or MPlayer Delogo2, I know next to nothing about those, & Mocha Pro that I do have & has a Remove option but Mocha really isn't cheap.

I suppose I should look at the mocha that I got with Vegas 21 because I recall there was a tracking portion and something about masking over it.

@Douglas-McCarron Yep, I think it was this Mocha Vegas video you're thinking of, I have Mocha
Pro not Mocha Vegas so I'd forgotten about this.

If you are referring to Mocha VEGAS, unfortunately you won't find Mocha's Remove feature there. The Remove feature is only available in the full Mocha Pro version.

Yes, Mocha VEGAS has planar tracking (it's main feature) but you would need to provide a replacement image of the image with the 'object' already hidden in order for that approach to work. That could work with a still image but very unlikely with a moving image. Mocha VEGAS won't remove the problem object for you.

If the problem object is only small, you could either drop a copy of the event onto a lower track, create a mask in the top track event (probably set to 'negative' in mask properties) and move the event on the bottom track in its pan/crop to move aside from the problem object; or use 'Cut Away' in NewBlue FX's package to replace a small problem image area with a nearby image area - this is good for small areas but doubtful for removing people or the like as in the examples given for ProDad's Hide.

Edit: Just looking at the video uploaded by Gid, it is very good but of course the replacement images (clean plates) are based on an area of the video that does not have the 'object' in view (same as in Mocha Pro 'Remove").

And the Prodad seems to only be for a year not a perpetual license. So not really an option either.

This isn't a VPX forum but here is what I am looking at, and wondering if it would also work in Vegas Pro.

@Douglas-McCarron are you sure that it is a plugin and not a standalone app?

Also, you can get Hide V2 for $50 now on sale at proDAD

I don't know what the difference is between V1 and V2...

@Douglas-McCarron You'd have to ask on the Magix forum, some of the people on there have Vegas but @john-brown is the main person that uses VPX, whether he has updated/upgraded to get that offer I don't know, a lot of the Magix forum members inc him have a lot of the NewBlue fxs already so I don't think many if any have taken up that offer. I haven't seen any posts anyway. .

Sometimes the Magix - NewBlue offers work in all OFX supporting editors, sometimes they're host (Magix) locked. I don't know about this offer or the ProDAD stuff, my ProDAD 6.0 is standalone only,

That VPX offer is $179.00 Upgrade. ProDAD is $53.11. . So I guess it would depend on if you want all the other packages that offer includes.

If you have Mocha Vegas watch that video I shared above, I should've mentioned that the Remove feature isn't in Mocha Vegas as @Dexcon has mentioned but like I say I forgot about that video that shows how it can be done on a video despite not having the Remove option, I didn't know you had Mocha Vegas.
