High CPU use when VMS is dormant

Hi.
I've noticed that if I have an AVCHD project open but the PC isn't being used, CPU0 is maxing out constantly. I realised this when, from another room, I heard that my CPU fan was still running. This was quite a while (half an hour or more) after I had left the PC and VMS was idle. I closed the project down but left VMS open and immediately CPU0 dropped down to 'ticking over'.
Has anyone any idea why this should be happening? Is it normal with HD projects? I didn't experience this when working in SD.
VMS Platinum 11, Windows 7 64bit, 8Gb RAM, Intel i5.
It's not a problem for me but I am curious. Thanks for any responses.

And if you minimize the application but leave the project open?

Interesting, are you sure it is VMS?

By any chance did you have itunes open or an iphone connected? I have noticed significant cpu utilization with nothing open and it turns out that it is an Apple driver....

Hi Musicvid10. I don't know, I didn't try that. But I will.

Hi Mark. I'm almost 100% sure it's VMS. I watched the CPU0 load drop immediately after I closed the project down.

I'm going to carry out a few experiments during my non-editing time and see what comes up. As I said, I'm not bothered about this behaviour, simply curious.

Thanks for your replies

It's a valid test because Vegas is set by default to dump the media when not the active application.

Hi Musicvid10.
I can confirm that CPU0 still maxes out even with the application minimised. I even made sure that the option 'Close media files when not the active application' checkbox was ticked in Preferences. When I closed the project CPU0 reduced to 'tickover'.
Thanks for your input
