Hitfilm 3 Pro Problems

I am running Vegas Pro 13 build 428, HitFilm3 Pro version: 3.0.3813.6, Win 7 64x latest level and Quadro 4000 at recommended driver level. I add any HD video to the timeline in Vegas Pro 13. Right click on the video and select add Hitfilm effect. Hitfilm3 Pro is launched. HitFilm3 Pro comes up. I select the event in HitFilm3 Pro then click on make Composite Shot and select OK. Make any change, for example, rotate the image and save the Hitfilm3 Pro file by clicking on the save icon. When I go back to Vegas Pro 13 all is updated. I save the Vegas project. When I close Vegas or HitFilm3 Pro in any order I get the error message. "Hitfilm Server has stopped working" . Everything is OK except the Hitfilm Server does not shut down properly and posts an error. You can watch the sequence in the Task Manager. You can manually shut down the Hitfilm server at the right time in the Task Manager and avoid the abnormal end.

I discovered if I set the "GPU acceleration of video processing" to "off" in Vegas Pro 13 Preferences - Video I do not get the error "Hitfilm server has stopped working". I normally set GPU acceleration of video processing to" NVIDIA Corporation (Quadro 4000)".

I have been working with FxHome Support but it is very slow process (~one question per day plus the time difference), Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the GPU memory usage those cards are 2 gig aren't they ? Hitfilm and Vegas both using it for acceleration at the same time perhaps it's running out of memory depending on the footage and complexity of the scene and crashing it. Should be easy enough to check just run something like GPU-Z while you do it. That would explain why turning GPU off in Vegas helps.

What HD footage are you using. Hitfilm does not like HD capture codecs like AVCHD. Transcode to an intermediate codec if you are going to use it in Hitfilm (e.g. DNxHD or ProRes) and try again.

@Mark

The GPU memory size for the Quadro 4000 is 2G. The max memory used by Vegas 13 < 2G and Hitfilm was <2G. Since they are processed sequentially it should not be a problem. Thanks for your help and -> GPU-Z

I ran the same test as in my first post with GPU-Z running. It reports graphics card memory used max 1016 MB GPU load max = 70% definitely not GPU problem.
But, if I set 'GPU acceleration of video processing' to off in Vegas 13 Pro /Preferences /Video everything runs with no problem.

@dancerchris

I have tried SD, Cineform... all with the same results.

Vegas uses OpenCL for GPU and Hitfilm uses OpenGL. Maybe you are running into a compatibility issue switching between the two. That compatibility could be at the driver level.

NewBlue also uses OpenGL and I have used them a lot without problem so Vegas can support OpenGL use mixed with their native OpenCL. I have an AMD GPU FWIW.
