This issue doesn't seem to go away, year after year, Version after Version, and still needs some clarification. Read the old thread https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/proliferation-of-vp-bundled-software-products--108531/

my current Win10/64 system (latest drivers, water cooled) :

Intel Coffee Lake i5 Hexacore (unlocked, but not overclocked) 4.0 GHz on Z370 chipset board,

32GB (4x8GB Corsair Dual Channel DDR4-2133) XMP-3000 RAM,

Intel 600series 512GB M.2 SSD system drive running Win10/64 home automatic driver updates,

Crucial BX500 1TB EDIT 3D NAND SATA 2.5-inch SSD

2x 4TB 7200RPM NAS HGST data drive,

Intel HD630 iGPU - currently disabled in Bios,

nVidia GTX1060 6GB, always on latest [creator] drivers. nVidia HW acceleration enabled.

Actually this is kind of a different issue. The issue that doesn't go away is whether bundled plugins will open in future upgrades (new major versions) of Vegas. The answer to that is "Assume not", for both licensing and technical reasons.

This question here is whether the purchase of a Vegas Pro bundle entitles the purchaser to major upgrades of the bundled plugins. The answer again is "Assume not", but you will probably be entitled to minor updates/patches of the plugins.

Thanks all for the replies!

My point on Hitfilm Ignite is the FXHome default license, which guarantees free updates (minor and major versions) during 1 year from the date of purchase.

If I buy Hitfilm Ignite bundled with Vegas Suite 16, I was hoping to have the same 1-year coverage. Do you know about that?

Ps.: I'm not concerned if the plugin will work with future Vegas releases, but only with the maintenance/update of the own plugin.

I think you'll have to ask FXhome directly to get a definitive answer. Please tell us what they say.

Just asked FXHome support. As soon as I'm informed I will update this post.

Just received a positive feedback about Hitfilm licensing model:

My question:

I'd appreciate information on Hitfilm Ignite licensing bundled with Vegas Pro 16 suite:
https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-pro/product-comparison/#productMenu

Hitfilm Ignite default license (bought from FXHome) guarantees free updates (minor and major versions) during 1 year from the date of purchase.

a) If I buy Hitfilm Ignite bundled with Vegas Suite 16, will I have the same 1-year update coverage (minor and major versions)?

b) In how many computers can I install Hitfilm Ignite bundled with Vegas Pro? Magix allow Vegas to be installed in two computers, so will Ignite work on those computers?

c) I'm going to buy Ignite bundled with Vegas 16, but is it expected to work with previous or future release of Vegas (e.g. 15, 17, 18)? Or is it tied to just Vegas 16?

Many thanks!

Hitfilm support answer:

Thank you for contacting FXhome. The license for Ignite Pro is the same regardless of where you purchase, and includes a full year of updates starting from the day you register.

b) Ignite Pro allows for installation on up to three host computers. The plugins can be used in as many supported host programs are installed on each of the three computers.

c) Ignite Pro supports Vegas 14 and 15 as well. Future versions are not currently supported, but generally compatibility comes fairly quickly when a new version of Vegas is developed.

I would follow up their ambiguous answer to (c) while you have their attention, and ask them if they will license this version of Ignite Pro in future versions of Vegas Pro, regardless of whether it works technically. Their answer to (b) sort of answers it but it can't harm to really have it confirmed.

I do recall a lengthy customer service ticket with the above a while back covering the cross version bundle issues which resolved in a lot of finger pointing. I have resolved for my part to not buy bundles anymore and buy full versions from the 3rd party plugins. This way you stand a better chance in a Version upgrade and less disappointing surprises down the track i find. Magix would be much better off only bundling their own products hence having better licensing control

+1 here also. Just go with the basic Vegas Edit upgrades and purchase the proper full versions of addins from the appropriate vendor, particularly if you rely on them for any ongoing projects. The Magix bundles are just appetite wetters IMHO.

I am leaning toward what AVSupport is saying. It seems the bundled extras are only good for the version of Vegas that they are bundled with and are only good for one computer. Unfortunately, this is fairly limiting especially if you work with both a desktop and laptop. I used to suggest getting the bundled versions because you get exposure to a plug-in you might not normally use or want to pay for as a standalone. But with the plug-in being tied to just one version of Vegas and only good for one computer, it becomes a hassle to use especially when the next upgrade of Vegas comes out and the plug-in doesn't transfer. In the end, you end up with a bunch of versions of Vegas, each with its own unique plug-ins, and after 2-3 versions of that, you've got stuff all over the place. So then, it is better just to get Vegas alone and just buy whatever standalone plug-ins you want. At least that way the plug-in will carry over or at least, you can pay for an upgraded version that will.
