And yet VEGAS Pro 20 is the best/most stable version I've had on my system in years. They've gone a long way towards stability in the more recent versions!

Quite so! Me, for example.

And 20 has been great for me - the only problem being the brief issue with startup that necessitated the emergency build. And that didn't just affect 20.

I've been using VP20 quite successfully with rarely a crash. In my last 2 projects, while editing up to 5 hours nonstop (pressed for time), not one crash.

So without additional information from the OP, no help can be offered. Heck, commenting that they've used previous versions and never posting here makes me wonder.....
