Hour Glassing

Dan Sherman wrote on 6/15/2011, 7:55 AM
...is happening when I pull a project onto the timeline.
Project includes MXF files, .AVI files, PNG stills.
Load OK (though it takes forever) but when I move the cursor or click the mouse or ShuttlePRO the hour glass appears, and Vegas Pro 10d hangs and hangs.
What do you suspect, a corrupt file, mixing MXF and .AVI, an HDD that's about to blow?
Stymied here.
Looking for some direction to diagnose and remedy.

Thanks,

Dan

Your specs say you're using Windows XP and RAM "above 1GB." How far above 1 GB? This sounds like a RAM problem off the top of my head.

Updates specs.

RAM is 3326MB
Processor 2.53GHz Intel 2 Duo Core
Windows XP Pro 32 bit
Page File 1208MB used 8015MB available

Well...that's better! Sorry, I have no clue to your problem. Have you considered an upgrade (actually a clean install is best) to Windows 7? I went from XP to 7 and love it.

Best of luck. :-)

Your problem is still XP. Watch your performance monitor (perfmon.exe).

If your "Used Physical Memory" hits 100%, then XP is going to swap some RAM into your pagefile/swap space (Microsoft calls it something different in evert O/S). This is when you get the hourglass.

If your Commit Limit hits 100%, then you get the "Low Memory" error.

And where are you seeing "3326Mb"? What is your installed RAM? (It should be divisible by 1024).
