How avoid the systematic creation of .sfk files?

Good morning all,
I would like to know if it's possible to tell Vegas not to create the .sfk files when you import and use a new file in Vegas. (I have Vegas pro 8). It "duplicates visually" the number of files in the folders and makes it very confusing when you search for a file in the hard disk.
Any way to avoid that?
Thank you
VideoJohn

Never heard of way to do that? But maybe you could have a filter in MS that will not SHOW these particular file types?

Without the .sfk files you'll have blank audio events on the timeline. You won't be able to see the waveforms. Are you willing to edit that way?

Generally i arrange folders by file type or by last modified date. In either case, this tends to keep the .sfk files away from the other media files. I also tend to do most of my media directory browsing in Vegas' on explorer window and this doesn't show the .sfk files at all.

View->Waveforms and Frames

If one turns this option off the peak (.sfk) files will not be built.

However, I just Sort by Type in Windows Explorer and they are out of the way.

Musicvid, this is the problem for our friend: "It "duplicates visually" the number of files in the folders and makes it very confusing when you search for a file in the hard disk."

It is not this: "If one turns this option off the peak (.sfk) files will not be built."

But your suggestion to Sort in folder is the best it gets.

Another way is to use an Explorer alternative: i.e. the Ultra Explorer (Google, free).

It has a filter that can hide the *.sfk, *.sfl etc files.

... and btw. it also does not show the dreaded Windows 7 old-film-look frame for video clips.
... and also you can set the thumbnail size - here we use 230x138.

Use the Vegas Explorer window instead of the Windows Explorer window. If you like you can even pull it out of Vegas and use it like it is a separate program. This has several advantages. One: you don't see the extra waveform files, just the media files. Another is that the Vegas Explorer window will automatically mirror any changes you do to the media files with the helper files.

For example if you rename a media file in the Windows Explorer, The next time you call it up on a Vegas timeline, a new .sfk file will be generated. If you rename it in the Vegas Explorer window, the .sfk file will automatically be renamed for you even though you can't see it. If you copy a clip in Vegas Explorer, it will automatically copy the helper files as well even though you can't see them. Same thing with deletes and moves. It is just so much easier to work with the Vegas Explorer window. Once you do it you'll never go back I promise. :-)

If the files are never created, does this not solve his issue? I must have missed something . . .

OTOH, if he wants his peaks without the files, sorry, I don't know how to do that.

Nearly. Does NOT want to see them in the MS Folders.
