You can't expect worst than that!
Dump the onboard sound...

Good question. First, it seems the only true limitation of Vegas is the quality of the video you put into it and your own imagination. On the good side, I've found the product to be very stable, lots of controls to customize the final production and relatively easy to learn. I've used Ulead Media Studio and Video Studio as well as Video Factory (good program but I couldn't get the mpeg to work without crashing my system). With that said, here are my candid assessment of improvement areas:

1. Vegas appears to lack 3D transitions and effects. The page peel transition has a 3D feel but I expected more 3D to be part of the package.

2. I wish "cues" or markers could be placed on sound files to help syncronize them to video events. Media Studio Pro has this and it was helpful, especially with sound effects or music that needed to be carefully timed. I suppose one could work around this by looking at waveforms and use a pen and paper to write down specific sound frame where events occur.

3. The registration process makes me a little nervous based on my Video Factory experience. I'd be nervous about unistalling the product until my box arrives. A lot of owners of that product are without mpeg until the new mpeg plug-in becomes avaialble. However, I don't know if this is really an issue with Vegas.

4. Keeping tracks in the right order for chroma keying and compositing is confusing. This will probably get better with time and experience.

5. Haven't had success yet with the capture feature using my ATI All-In-Wonder. However, using the capture software that came with the card seems to work.

If anyone has spotted anything that I've criticized due to a lack of understanding on my part, enlighten me. Overall, I am pleased with the product.

To tell you the truth so am I...LOL. Sorry, after writing about all my problems I've had with it on win98se. The features are kick@@s though. The thing about getting the sound effect to happen at a certain point is easy. Just place a marker where you'd like the start the wave event...press f8 to "snap to"to be active. The wave will "snap" to the marker line when you go close enough to it. Then do your fine edits. I got a recommendation from someone at tech support to use windows 2000pro second edition. So far not many complaints...at least not the horrors I've seen. After all this time using cubase I'm almost numb with software to have weird glitches in them[FREAKIN" CUBASE] and its always my system first...trust me. I would go with windows 2000pro second edition but make sure your soundcard/video/etc...has up to date drivers with them. Really great program though when it works.Later.

Why don't you just download the demo and give it a try? I think the only thing you won't be able to try out is the MPEG encoding.
