How can capture work, but not print-to-tape?

Hey all,

I'd been having problems with dropped frames and completely interrupted data streams while printing to DV tape on my Asus A7V/Tbird 1gHz/VV3.0 system. After reading the forum, I checked the device manager and discovered my firewire card was sharing IRQ 9 with literally a dozen (!) othe devices. I disabled APCI, rebooted, and all problems are gone.

Fine and dandy. My real question is this: how was I able to capture a 4+gig clip with zero frames dropped, but couldn't output more than one minute without dropping frames all over the place?

Someone help my little brain comprehend this, for the sake of my curiosity. Thanks!

I dunno the definitive answer, but I know the Big Lie these days is that ACPI is evil. Fact is, by putting everything equally on a single IRQ it only adds a microsecond or two for the software to figure out whose IRQ it is and respond.

No excuse at all for a SLOW 25mbps stream to not work. Just a bunch of sloppy programmers out there.
