i have a lacie 60 gb 7200 rpm and oxford 911 external hard drive, but i keep getting dropped frames when i try to capture. how can i make sure that my hd is DMA active?
if win2k. right click 'my computer' go to properties, then click the hardware tab. Then click 'device manager'. Go down to 'IDE controllers' Expand it. Go to the primary controller and right click it and go to properties. Click the advanced settings. It will tell you there.
If you're in PIO mode, go to microsoft.com and install service pack 2. Reboot and you should be good. Otherwise start looking for a new driver for the drive.
yeah, i checked this out and dma was already active. i just don't understand why i would get dropped frames like this when i have a brand new 60 GB hard drive running at 7200 rpm. arg!
Your problem is system related. If you have a Via chipset, update to the latest drivers. If that doesn't solve it, search this forum for "ACPI" there are many posts that will be of help.
