How can I not have vegas store a file while i am capturing one

Is there a way in vegas video for me to not have another file that is being made when I capture? whenever i record it makes another file as a .avi, and that avi file size is HUGE, im talking like Gigabytes for just 1 file, how can i change this?

What is the type of the file that you think you want to keep? Probably the huge .avi file IS the captured file you really do want. DV .avi files are about 225MB per minute, so 1GB is only about 4.5 minutes.
