How can I not record other audio tracks along with voiceover.?

I'm recording voiceover directly to the timeline but I can't seem to do it without recording existing audio that's on all the other tracks at the same time.

Is there a way to listen to the other audio tracks (through headphones - speakers are muted when headphones are plugged in) without recording them to the new audio track? Surely I don't have to MUTE all the other audio tracks...

Only the track(s) that you arm for record get recorded to. You can have the other tracks playout or not while recording, it's all just a matter of how you route things to your sound card.

One additional trick, if you make a looped region when you go into record at each iteration of the loop Vegas records as a take, very handy. One other thing is you can also have the vision playout as well! Adding some pips at the start of the track may make it easier for the VO guy to get himself in sync.

Sorry if this isn't very specific but best way I've found to learn all this stuff is to play around with it, remember unlike tape Vegas will not overwrite anything so play around to your hearts content.

Thanks for your reply,

I understand that only the armed track gets recorded to, my problem is that audio from the other tracks gets recorded on the new track along with the voiceover.

Your sound card is set to get it's recording input from "Mixed Output" or "What U Hear". You need to select "Line" instead.

Right. I have the Audigy Platinum card and it was set to "What U Hear". I changed it to "Microphone" and all is going well. Thanks for your help.
