How can I use Vegas Pro with Windows 11 without errors and crashing?

Windows forced me to upgrade to Windows 11, and since then Vegas Pro 17 Build 455 is crashing often and not allowing me to open multiple instances of Vegas, which I need for cutting and pasting. I am willing to upgrade to latest Vegas, but want to know if this will definitely fix the problems. I see various posts about this, but some are too technical for me. What's the definitive word on this?

I don't have VP17 but would expect it to work okay with Win11. I do have VMS17 and VP21 which are okay with Win11 and all my other software programmes that worked with Vista, then Win 10 are also okay on Win 11. So I'm surprised you are having problems.

Please post your full system specs so we can try to help you.

There's no definitive word because there are many combinations of media, hardware and software. What happens when VEGAS crashes for you (what are you working on?) What is the error message?

I'd suggest spending some time with a free trial of 23 and see if it's stable.

@darren-starwynn If you're referring to this bug: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/problem-to-open-more-instances-of-vegas-pro-22--148817/

For me, before I open the second instance, I'll close my undocked preview window. This way, the crash can be temporarily avoided.

It seems that Magix has not yet fixed it.

There's another alternative method, which is to open two different projects in the same instance to do cross-project copying. This requires you to go to the internal preferences, find "Empty Clipboard when closing projects", and change it from TRUE to FALSE. This enables you to retain the clipboard data permanently when closing the project, thus allowing you to transfer data between two different projects within the same VEGAS instance.
