Lots of different scenes carefully planned so they all join together, each scene is shot using bullet time then masterfully composited together.

I did some checking into any recent changes in bullet time technology and ran across this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_viewpoint_television Yep, it's wiki but it's a start. :)

From my understanding they take numerous video cameras (well doesn't have to be many but more cameras giver higher quality) and then the various views are stitched together using 3D translations/interpolations of the various viewpoints. This would also explain why some of the scenes and movements have an exaggerated perspective.

A cool effect though.

Or what Bob said. :)

I hate what just happend. I was forced to watch a rap video to see the special effects. The only time I watch a rap video is when the politicians are on TV and I have to switch channels.

Back to the video effect. XFX (Rory) and I visited a Coke shoot once where they had a video cam on an electronic jib mounted on rail tracks that was computerized to shoot the same angle, focus etc. All the 30+ actors had to stay on the same spot and keep absolutely still for the entire shoot as the computerized cam moved accross the entire stage. This was done 20+ times. The end result was similar. In the shot where the money, keys etc that were thrown and were frozen in the air is frozen framed and they could safely zoom in to the layer behind which has the same stage props and background etc.

That's my guess

"...each scene is shot using bullet time then masterfully composited together."

It's not bullet time. It's just everyone standing still while a steadicam passes by them.

bob, where did you find it?

curious....

50 Cent did something like this in his vid for "Ok, You're Right" that was based on "Philips Carousel - a short film from Adam Berg and Stink Digital". Brilliant.

And here's a bit of behind the scenes/making of:

That's exactly it Ray, thanks for sharing the link.
Such a cool effect. I saw this on a CSI episode one time as well and thought it was amazing. I love technology and human creativity!

Yes, the making of Carousel was very interesting. They must have had a LOT of wires, and quite the budget!
The rap video definitely looked like a 'poor man's version' - there are several places where you can see the moving shadow of the camera.
I didn't get a sense of it, but wondering whether they shot it 'overcranked' to minimize any wavering motion by the extras?

I can't find the video, but it reminds me of a clip a guy did as he was on a train speeding through a train station platform.

Everyone (regular people, not actors) on the station platform was standing still waiting for their train.

They weren't standing *perfectly* still, but it didn't matter. As the train sped past them, filming at a high frame rate, when the video is slowed down, it gives the very real effect that everyone is frozen perfectly in time. Was a pretty cool video, but can't find a link right now...

Also remember the beginning of Swordfish where they had 50 or so cameras in a circle around the explosion and they slowed that down and you saw only a few frames from every camera making a complete 360, 100 % WOW factor

yeah that's true lightAds. forgot about that one too. I just love that look. It's like when you were a kid and thought about how cool it would be to be able to stop time. Like they ended up doing in the matrix program scenes.

In the rap video near the end after you see the camera guy's shadow, you can see a couple of them wavering a tiny bit. Those poor bastards at the end must have been holding it for a little bit.... lol.

Yes, thanks, that's the train video I was thinking of. Was pretty cool I thought.
