Hi all,

it's been a while but I have a question you hear a lot here. How do I do this http://www.gatesfoundation.org/Pages/home.aspx in vegas. You can hit the "replay intro" button to see what I am talking about...

1). I love this effect, it's on photos but it's like a glow in the middle of light and color when the rest is black and white (like a vinegette) but it's all moving... How do I imitate that? is it possible in Vegas?

2).the other thing i think is cool is the little dots that add that "majic" feeling to the photo.. love it.. how do I do it? with out making like a hundred dots... is there a way I could achieve this effect?

thanks a million guys (and gals).

peace.

This doesn't answer your question, but here are a couple of interesting observations.

The Bill & Melinda Gates foundation website is:

1) Using asp.net (as I would have expected).
2) Is playing its intro video via JW Player/Flash (I would have expected Silverlight).

1) use two tracks, track A be a mask on to track B. Theirs looks animated.
2) Some kind of particles. Blender with the most basic material & some force fields to disperse them would do the same thing. Mask on a track above & do ~40% alpha'ed.

You need to create your particle track first. keep the tones grey, more, toward the whites and add glow and = composite lighten.
The particle track will then use the dark areas to composite onto and the light areas to washout

The particles look like something from Digital Juice:
Swipes, Volume 5: Particle Wonders

The dots can also be easily be done by modifying a preset in Particle Illusion.

Here's something I did real quick from one of those presets...

A little more tweaking should get more in the ballpark of the clip.
