How do I edit a video file with a .dv extension?

Just got a DVD from a newbie Apple user, and while I specifically asked for a DVD playable on a DVD player, what he gave me instead was a file with a .dv extension.

Is there some way to play it? Vegas7 won't show it on the timeline.

Did you try changing the extension to AVI, QT or MOV?
