How do I Freeze Frame at START of Event using Velocity Envelope?

Grazie wrote on 8/27/2016, 1:37 AM

Yes I can do the Capture Still thing and add it to the front of the Event, alter play lengths, but I'm wanting to try if VE can do this 'cos:

  1. No need for extra Media wandering about my PC!
  2. Fully adjustable allowing me to change my mind about where I wanted the motion to start, or stop!
  3. Adding the Rate of change I can see would be great for storytelling in easing motion into the flow.
  4. BIG ONE THIS: Wouldn't require me to break my Editing Flow.

TIA.

If you nright click on the first node and select 0% you're done.
If you want to vary speed after that, add a node or two and drag/set where you require.

Peter, thanks. However before I posted here I tried exactly that without much luck.

I always split the frame I want to freeze, this makes it easier to line find the exact frame. Then make the Velocity envelope zero on that frame and the normal speed on the following frame.

So, this is with Splitting the Event. Neater than using a Still, sure. But I'm after a way to use the Event without Splitting, just using one VE and setting the first 0 at 1 second, could even be a HOLD.

Did you try moving/placing the 0% node/point left to right Grazie?
Splitting exactly at the position you want to hold and then putting a 0% node at the very beginning would still be best though.

You can hold the image as long as you want by putting a second node at 0% on the right beside it, when a node is set higher than 0% the video plays forward. If the node is set lower than 0% it plays in reverse.

Grazie, I just tried it with Peter's method and my usual method and both worked as expected.

My usual method is to add a second node after the desired freeze point node, set it to 0% and then drag it under the first node.

FYI, this is with Pro 13, build 453.

Mike, as I said originally, the PW method also works, but I'm wanting to go with a VE. I shall following your method and note where I am deviating. Now I'm more than interested to see just where my understanding of the VP is lacking!

And thanks Mike for your interest.

Grazie, my brain isn't working too well on this Saturday morning. What's the PW method?

VE is velocity envelope, right? That's what I used. As I'm sure you know, you can click on a node and hold the ALT key to allow you to slide it in a horizontal direction only making adjustments a wee bit easier 😊

PW = Peter Wright.

Yes, the ALT button is a rgeat button.

OK, I'd used the HOLD for ZERO until my next NODE, which was 100%. This got me into much distress and penuary.

Your advice to place nodes VERTICALLY aligned is a truly new experience for me.

Thank you Mike.
