How do I get the Limiter to work?

I've got the XFX 1,2,and 3 packets, and
can not get the limiter presets in either
the Compressor or the Graphical Dynamics to
limit all of the song. They do a great job on
99.5%, but do not control the attack of sharp
transitents.

If I set the attack time value to 0, it distorts terribly. If I leave it at 1 MS, it does not
limit the important peaks.

How do I make this work?

I ran across this phenomenon a while back. What I did was to set the attack time to between 0 and 1 ms (to about .5 or .7 ms or whatever worked w/o distortion). I believe I was using the multi-band compressor. You could probably do the same thing with the Track Compressor from Vegas. You might set the release time to something very fast also - just enough to clamp your peak(s). Try lowering the threshold a little bit too. Unless there are alot of them, you could always manually reduce the peak(s).

I haven't had any luck with the suggestion:

>about .5 or .7 ms or whatever worked
I can't get it to accept anything but integers.

I tried both the multi-band dynamics and
the graphics dynamics. The dialog box prompts hints
that decimal (non-integral) values work, but they seem to get rounded/truncated.

So, still no joy.
