I guess I don't understand the question.
ZippyGaloo wrote on 8/26/2003, 11:48 PM
When you add a transition, you can justify how the transition is layed down in the project.

1. The effect (transition) ends just as the second clip is starting. = Left Justify
2. The effect (transition) is spread across the two clips. = Center Justify
3. The effect (transition) begins just as the second clip is starting = Right Justify

I know this is possible in Vegas because I've seen the selection menu. I just can't for the life of me find it again.

Zipp, I think being new to Vegas, you're a little confused. In the context used in Vegas a "transition" is how one event changes into another... or doesn't.

The transition space is show as a "X" on the timeline the larger the "X" the greater the time the transiton takes.

If events butt up against each other there is no transition. Its just a butt joint. One scene (event) immediately follows another. You may see a quick black flash if you have empty space between the events on the timeline. Zoom in to see.

If however you drag one event over the other you increase the transation space or the "X". You drop transition in the "X" area or you can select the default cross fade which depending on how much you drag one event over the other determines the length of the transition. There is no such thing as left, center or right justify as far as transitions are concerned.

If you're referring to automatic transitions when several clips are added to timeline at once:
Options / Preferences / Editing / Alignment
ZippyGaloo wrote on 8/27/2003, 1:26 AM
BillyBoy you are sadly mistaken! There is such thing as left, center and right justify as far as transitions are concerned. In fact PeterWrights post pointed me exactly where I was looking to go. So, please don't draw conclusions without first looking for yourself, even if you do consider me "new to Vegas".

To learn more about these "justifications", I suggest you play around with the three settings and see how they effect the "transitions" in your timeline...because they do effect them. Look closely as to where the transitions begin and end in relation to the cut point and specific frames in the media.

you sure seem like a dick
TheHappyFriar wrote on 8/27/2003, 8:16 AM
I played with that alignment and it didn't seem to do anything different (with and without the "over lap clips automaticly" box checked.
Zippy, your origional post doesn't say you are trying to drop/drag multiple clips onto the timeline and have them overlap a certain way. I can understand everyone else's confusion. Next time be more descriptive and you'll get an answer faster.

But, you can't "justify" clips transations from what i've seen, you can just change the direction they start in. You change this on the transation properties screen under the Direction heading (some times a dropdown box, sometimes a 4 button set).

jetdv wrote on 8/27/2003, 8:46 AM
Oh, THAT'S the setting you were looking for.

It is also used when you press the "/" key on the numpad to create a transition. It determines if all of the "extra" frames come from the left clip, the right clip, or half from each.

Zippy, like anyone else I try to UNDERSTAND what you really want which at times may be different then how you phrased it. I'm only human, sometimes I don't know what a poster REALLY wants and so I guess, and guess wrongly.

The problem often is HOW you or someone else phrases the question which sometimes is terribly. While I may be guilty of giving too long an answer sometimes, people asking convoluted questions as you seem to usually do frequently aren't pleased with the answer because it isn't clear what you're really asking and the answers only dance all around what you really want to know. That describes you.

Your main problem aside from apparenlty not reading the manaul or trying to help yourself is you automatically jump to the conclusion that Vegas is at fault, whereas the real problem sooner or later comes back to YOU not really understanding how the application works and not being able to express in words EXACTLY what your problem is.

I think I've tried to help you in every thread you started. If I didn't in this one I'm sorry. I tired. Maybe I helped you in the others ones. Yes, I can tell you are frustrated. People spending their time trying to help get frustrated too when their efforts don't seem appreciated.

what does "second column fourth down" mean?

RE: Control + Drag" or " Velocity Envelope" for speed changes? Why?

What exactly do you want to know? Simply use CTRL-DRAG if you want a CONSTANT speed from .25x to 4x

Use Velocity Envelope IF you want speeds below .25x, freeze frame, or reverse. Also use the velocity envelope if you want to ramp up or down in speed (i.e. go from 100% gradually down to freeze frame.)

Combine them to get other speeds such as 12x (velocity envelope at 3x (300%) and CTRL-DRAG to 4x)
