How do I mix one file with another?

RebelBabe wrote on 5/3/2001, 12:43 PM
Hi, I'm new to all of this, I posted a post on the directx
thing, but I got that one fixed :) Ok, here's my dilema
now, I got the vocals removed from a .wav file, now I'm
wanting to add my vocals into this .wav because it has the
music, how do I do this? I've already recorded my vocals
into a .wav format. Is there anyway I can like put the two
together? Please remember I'm a newbie be gentle :P

Thanks in advance

Put each file (music, voice and any others) on a separate
track, adjust mix/fx/timing etc, then render a new .wav
file.

Thanks for the information is...my problem is, I don't know
what I'm doing at all, and I don't know how to
mix/fx/timing yet. I've looked but I don't think I know
exactly what I'm looking for. This is the very first time
I have even tried to use any type of software like this, so
I'm at a total confusional loss with what you're saying. I
don't know how to render or anything like that. Thanks for
you help though heh guess I'm just too much of a dumby :P

Put your music file in one track and your vocal in another.
Set your volume levels using the faders until you get a
pleasing balance between the tracks. You can also put
effects, EQ, etc. onto the music and vocal tracks to your
liking at this point.

Once you get everything sounding like you want when you
play back the .veg file, simply go to File|Render As on the
Menu Bar and name the new combined file and the directory
where you want to put it in the box that pops up.

At this point you can hit the Custom button and choose
different parameters like sampling rate, bit rate, mono,
stereo, etc ... just using the defaults will probably be
fine.

Hit the save button and Vegas will combine your files for
you.

You can playback the combined file by putting into the
Vegas project file and soloing it, or open it using your
default wave player, etc.

You can do the above as many times as you want until you
get a final combined file that you like.

Hope this helps.
