Once you drag the event out AFAIK you would have to manually caculate the speed by seeing how many frames you added.

If you want to set up more accurately, drop in a velosity envelope

From Insert Video Envelopes Event Velocity.

Its easy to get a little confused over the two methods. When you drag the event out your're getting slow motion by adding frames which of course adds to the time interval.

However using a Event Velocity envelope can speed up or slows down the video WITHOUT altering the time span.

Both methods havre their advantages depending on what effect you're going for. You can add nodes or control points to the velocity envelopes to ramp the speed up/down, halt even reverse.

Right-click the event and select Properties. "Playback rate" shows the speed. You can also set the playback rate here.

So if a clip says 0.250, what does that mean?

Thanks

That means it's playing at 0.250 times normal speed, or in other words, 25%, or 1/4.

I have read that 30% is pushing it. Can anyone be more clear about what is too much. I'm sure there are other factors, but as I am new to the video side, I don't know the parameters.

Thanks

Gwan, give it a go. I think the velocity envelopes are one of the best features going for Vegas. Loop the event and generate a RAM preview for the full effect. No like? Undo! No harm, no foul. Darryl

30% is fine actually. I've gone as slow as 20% in some cases- just make sure you have "smart" or "forced" resample checked. It never gets choppy but a bit of a motion blur if you will...due to all the resampling adding extra frames.

Another way (in Vegas5) to tell your speed percentage is look at the bottom right of the audio portune while ctrl+dragging the clip. You'll see a small percentage # show in realtime as you drag the clip around. It only workds if the clip has audio associated with it. If you delete the audio then try to speed up or slow down your footage using ctrl+drag the speed % won't default to the video event. To see this I believe you have to the option to show clip info in events.
