how do I switch between video tracks

Hi :-)

Lets say I have taken video footage on 2 camcorders of a person talking and the two cameras are set up to film the person at two diffrent angles.

I put the videos in Vegas on timeline 1 and timeline 2, and they are both in sync.

How can i switch between the 2 timelines to show the 2 diff angles with out having to do loads of cutting and pasting.

Their must be a way :-)

In Vegas, the upper video tracks always have priority (unless you've parented them to other tracks...). This means that with your current situation, you will only see the video from the top track. To "cut" to the video in the other track, there are several things you can do.

The simplest is to put a "split" at the point where you want to cut away and another one where you want to cut back to the video on the top track, and then delete the inbetween section. This will allow the video on the next track down to show through.

There are also tutorials that focus on multi-camera editing. Look at http://www.creativecow.com in the tutorials for V4 to find them.

The tape and script does a lot to help in the syncronization and editing of multi-camera shoots. They are nearing completion and should be available soon.

I just did a similar thing with a 3 camera shoot, I just used the mute button (!) to switch between the diffrent video tracks and show what I wanted to. When I found where I wanted to do a cut I placed a marker at the beginning and end of the cut I wanted. Then I cut the main video just inside the 2 markers, and I cut the clip I wanted to insert right on the markers, then dragged the new clip up into the timeline, and it had a nice fade between the 2 clips.

use the track motion of each track to resize so that all the camera veiws are seen in a "split screen" sort of way. if you have two tracks, it is like you are looking at two different monitors. go through and place markers where you want to switch and make notes with the markers. after you have completed this, go through and actually do your physical editing. then you can put all the clips on the same track to crossfade or transition or whatever. sure beats having to solo, mute, solo, mute, etc.
