How do volume envelope and compressor interact?

I have had to adust levels in some spots of my audio track using the volume envelope. I want to add some compression to tamp down the dynamic range of the adjusted audio. If I add compression fx to the track (not the individual audio assets) is that applied after the envelope adjustment in the chain of manipulation of the audio? Any difference between that and adding compression to the audio bus track?

Best thing to do is to look at the flow chart in the manual.
To answer your specific question though the FXs in the track header are applied before the volume envelopes.
The FXs in the Buss track are after the tracks volume envelope.
This works the same as a physical mixing console.
So yes, big difference between applying compression in the track header and in the bus track.
