add FX to only a certain part of a particular track? it always applies to the entire thing....i wanna be able to echo certain words but can't figure out how to do this...
To elaborate on that slightly, you create the echo as an aux effect(make an FX bus). You then can send any or all of the tracks to the echo, adjusting the level in the left hand column you might not see it unless you zoom out or drop down the hidden sliders under the pan slider)You can then right click the track you want, and draw an FX send envelope. Set it to zero, except when you want echo on your vocal, when you bring it up to taste, and voila! automated fx.
Actually, that's pretty much how it was done in tape machine days, as far as echoing a certain word. It's much easier in the DAW world and you don't even need to worry about the automated effects stuff. What you do is take your vocal track and find the words you want to echo. You do a couple splits and drop that word you want to echo onto another track. On that Track with just the word, you can either insert a Track Effect with an Echo, or you can use the FX sends and send it to an FX's buss and have control over the levels of the wet and dry signals. It's much quicker and easier than using automation.
Also, I saw you posted a similar post in the Sound Forge forum regarding Echo and putting it on beat with the song. This is quite simple and you could use either the simple delay or multitap delay plugins. To get the echos in time you use the "delay time" setting. I use a program that is able to calculate back and forth between delay time and Beats per minute. If you know the beats per minute then you can calculate what the delay time in milliseconds for 1/16th, 1/8th note, 1/4note, 1/2note and whole note echoes. This is the value you enter into the "delay time" field. For multiple echoes you increase the feedback adjustments, the more echoes you want the higher the feedback amount you want. The simple delay doesn't have a feedback adjustment, but just a simple checkbox for feedback. To therefore increase the the amount of echoes you increase the "decay' time, where it will stop the echoing at the end of the decay time.
which begs for multple tempos available per project in vegas. As a variation of reds method above, if its only for a few echoes, you can do like he said, cut and split to separate tracks, and just copy and move the echo events into place youself
guys thanks for the help...i got 2 more questions...do you have a link to a good calculator for delays.....
and say i want to echo random words throughout a verse...(i was playing with this last night) so what i did was clip the word, move it to a new track...and then add the delay....but then i got to another word and i wanted to echo that also, but when i moved it down the echo seems off because i didn't clip at the same place...is there a way i can clip at the same place each time according to the ruler (which i have set to measures and beats) because i dont want to add another 10 tracks to the song if i don't have to...
