How Do You Create Moving Background 3D Images?

15thSINE wrote on 1/13/2014, 8:57 PM
Hi everyone

I'm a Music Producer, Love Vegas Pro 12 so easy to edit with. My main focus and energy is on creating my music.

I want to know how you can create moving background 3D images in Vegas Pro 12 in this track example here how the images spin in the 3D motion. (I'm not pitchin tunes here)

I did my first real video similar to this , I just royalty free video loops and put the image layers on top. Is there a plugin i have to buy or is there already one in Vegas Pro 12 to get the above result? And a vid link tutorial would be great to thanks everyone

Here's my result what I've done

That specificly could be done in a 3D program. If you're wanting to do your own custom stuff like that, learning a 3D program would be much more efficient then doing it in a NLE (like Vegas) or one of those compositing/FX programs (like AE)l.

Vegas is primarily a non linear editor (NLE). The type of experience you are after is what THF suggests. SCS recognise this and have formed major partnerships with 3rd Party Plug developers. It wasn't always thus. (WINK!) Outta Box, what VP provides will ultimately nudge you towards one of the 3D Plug-ers, your Credit Card and further learning and not a little expense in Video Tutorials too. What a business we're in.

Cheers

Hi 15th sine,

Great advice from a couple of wise contributors to the forum.

My own thoughts are that the learning curve for the major 3D software products can be formidably steep (perhaps it's just me, as I've looked at Blender (free & capable), Cinema 4 etc). Unless 3 D is a passion (or perhaps a necessity), you might explore the more user friendly packages, that while obviously way less capable, allow mere mortals to create after a few mins / hrs orientation. I use Corel Motion Studio 3 D for the (very limited) 3 D projects that I'm needing it for and if I can drive it, anyone can. I mention it as it has (a limited particle generator) along with pre-sets for "shatter" etc. Please note, I have absolutely no affiliation with Corel and no capability in 3D. You are absolutely correct that Vegas Pro 12 is a breeze to use.

Good luck.

I do quite a bit of 3D modeling and animation to complement my video work. I agree with The Happy Friar: the most efficient way to pull of the animation is within a proper 3D package. I use Cinema 4D, which is many times the purchase price of Vegas. You will also spend a significant amount of time just learning the program, way more than learning an NLE, in my opinion.

Also, about 99% of the animation renders from a 3D package need (or require) compositing and other tweaks, which in my case occur in After Effects. There again is another deep application to learn.

Are you up to the challenge to generate the backgrounds this way? If not, perhaps some stock animations (free or paid) would suit your creative interests. I'm not familiar with Duncan's suggestion of the Corel product, but that sounds like a quick and dirty way to also customize your own background animation.

Yeh i did check out Cinema 4D and I can't justify that cost, and i'm still getting my head around Vegas Pro 12 so no i'm not pre-paird to learn another program , my music creation will suffer. I thought there'd be a 3D effects spinning preset in Vegas were I can put my logo in and will do that fancy rotation in the first YouTube example I gave. But for know i'll just have to stick with the royalty free spinning video loops like i done in my second example. I don't want to just put a still image and and text writing, people don't watch that if your name isn't big nor would they embed it on there facebook. Thanks for the advice so far.

I use Corel Motion Studio 3 D for the (very limited) 3 D projects

Duncan, I used to use Ulead's Cool3d for simple 3d additions to my videos and lamented its passing. Looks like this is the replacement for that program. I'm downloading the trial to have a look-see.

Have you seen BluffTitler? It is reasonably priced and can do similar effects to what you want.

Have you considered purchasing some stock footage froma source like this:

I initially wanted how it was done in the vid here

I love how all the spining broken glass comes together and forms the logo into the center and rotates in 3D.

What I've done here:
is basic but not as eye candy as the first.

I have NewBlue Titler Pro it came with my Vegas Pro 12 package can this do what I want like in the first example?

To do something like that in 3D you'd have a simulation with an object exploding and you keep looping it.

For what you're wanting some stock footage or paying someone to do custom work for you might be the best idea.

What you see there could be done in Zaxworks:

You can either run that in After Effects or standalone.

None of the Zaxworks products are true 3D which makes them much easier to learn. The objects do however interact with lights within After Effects.

You can also have a look at Particular from Red Giant which is a 3D particle system for AE.

Note that although all of these are cheaper and easier to learn than a true 3D application they are still not what many would call cheap or easy to learn. On the upside there's heaps of free projects on the web and heaps of free training.

Many folks here use Boris effects which can produce something very close to what you're trying to do.

(Though this demo is in After Effects Boris also makes it for Vegas)
@ approx 2:30 Shatter text effect
@ approx 4:45 combine Shatter effect w/ other deformers
http://www.borisfx.com/videos/BCCAE/3D-Deformers.php

Another shatter text demo

The BCC Units 3D Objects effect package may be what you're looking for.

The above demos is from Boris Continuum Complete, you may need to verify if the 3D Objects effect package has shatter in it. Someone on the forum may be able to verify.

The reason I taught myself Blender (took ~3-4 months) was because of the price of those programs. They are great at what they do, but I'd have to teach myself them too, so I taught myself Blender and spend $100 on books for that instead. I did have experience in Lightwave/Maya so I already knew the theory behind a 3D app & what not, but I'm glad I learned it.

This is a pretty quick explode, then I reverse it in Vegas to make it go back together. Just lazy this morning. :p

BCC8 has 3D Extruded Image Shatter and 3D Image Shatter. There are also a Lens Flare 3D, Particle Array 3D, Particle Emitter 3D, and Pin Art 3D.

As advised in an above thread, I had a go and within 5 mins created this "flying shards" effect (similar effect to footage originally posted by OP), using the drag & drop package as advised in my post above. Only uses presets & keyframes.

Don’t forget Hitfilm

I am crossing over to Vegas 12 with Hitfilm integrated this year so I am looking forward to see how they play together. Boris and Vegas handshaking has disintegrated slowly over the years unfortunately.

The Hitfilm 3D particle generator and explosions etc are very good takes a while to get your head around creating a point perspective for particles in 3d space etc but otherwise I am getting the feel for it and enjoying the head pain from the challenge, nothing like challenging the norm to create a new perspective.

I don’t think I am getting the composite right regarding “point perspective” as the perspective looks weird on the text = not sure are we supposed to create a point for the composite project or layer and if we can transfer the perspective from layer to layer? Sh*t this stuff hurts.

Images as particles.

And here is one created with Corel's MotionStudio 3d as mentioned above.
