How do you reGroup everything on timeline?

TGS wrote on 1/31/2008, 11:22 PM
I made the mistake of checking "Ignore Event Grouping" in Options, as I wanted to keep the audio and cut the video on one clip. Now everything is un-grouped. I can group individual clips, but everything else is still un-grouped.
I tried Shift + G and I tried Ctrl+Shift+G, but that didn't help
I can't find the answer and am getting frustrated.
Anybody know?

Select everything that you want to be in the group and hit G. Make sure that ignore event grouping is turned off.

If you want everything on the timeline in a group, go to Edit>Select>Select All and then hit G.

Thanks for the info, but instead of waiting for a response, I just closed the program without saving and re-opened and started over.
My problem was everything was un-grouped and every time I tried to slide something over the audio would stay behind and I was afraid of a big disaster as I had quite a few clips arranged.
I wasn't trying to make everything a group, just wanted all the audio and video of every clip, stay together again.
I didn't see a way to turn off "Ignore Event Grouping", there was no check mark and no option I could see to reverse it.

Ahhh.
There is no way to see if 'Ignore Event Grouping" is on or off
You just click it again and it's off
THAT'S PRETTY DUMB

SONY!!!!!!!
At least include a status check mark. I don't expect something worded as "Ignore Event Grouping" to do the opposite if it doesn't have a check mark or some sign that gives me a clue.

Look closely at the Ignore Event Grouping icon. When you toggle it on, there is a distinct frame around the icon. When toggled off, there is no frame around the icon.

Well, I appreciate the message, but a frame around the icon is not a good way to show you as I didn't notice it appear, and once it's there, if you didn't notice, it could've always been there. Most things have a check mark. why expect me to notice a frame? What does that mean?
I'm sorry, but a frame to indicate that "Ignore Event Grouping" is engaged, doesn't cut it when so many things have a simple check mark, that I'm used to seeing and expect
I've turned it on once for the first time and I just turned it off for the first time and never looked again. After wasting time and finally figuring it out, It's already in my memory now, so I don't need the frame. I'll never forget again.

Grazie,
Did you see my post at the top?
How long am I supposed to search?
You could've written "The Icon is Framed when it's engaged" and saved us both some time.

Be aware, all the icons are framed when On and unframed when Off.
Same goes for the Options such as Quantise to Frames except there the framing is even less obvious.
For certain they be a dang side more obvious. Some of these can have signficant but subtle impacts on your rendered video and are a constant source of confusion.

Yeah, I sort of flipped there.
I never used anything in options except Preferences, so the Icon square thing never happened for me.
I mostly used the Icons above the timeline for most of those functions and the "Ignore Event Grouping" thing was my first time. It still isn't that distinct to me. You click it and the page disappears, then when you go back, the Icon almost looks the same. The Frame is grey and thin.
Meanwhile, go the 'View' tab and have a look.

TGS? I was referring to your obvious annoyance:

"SONY!!!!!!!"

It was THAT I was referring for you checkout, AND that it has been raised before and we are waiting for something a bit more obvious. Nothing more and nothing less TGS.

Seriously, I was under the impression you were wanting to literally REGROUP some scattered events. I wasn't aware that it was the actual ICON pressing you were needing assistance on. I immediately thought of some UNDOs to get back to where you wanted to be.

Personally I would like a warning to hit me that I had left this unchecked when I go to move something. Something central in the SCREEN.

Sorry Grazie,
I should know by now, to read your comments more carefully or I may jump to conclusions. I have a tendency to skim a little too fast. (usually missing a KEY word)
While I read a lot of posts here, I don't read everything, especially if it doesn't seem to pertain to me.
"Ignore Event Grouping", seeing those words in print, doesn't mean anything to me until you learn what they mean. (only at the 5 year mark on a computer, so maybe it's obvious to most) So I probably skipped over all the posts in the past until I finally needed to learn about it. Which is now.
And with me using the term reGroup, sort of shows why I'm so poor at using search engines in general.

TGS, no harm done at all.

We all come here to learn, and if you come here with a wish wanting to have something work in another then so be it - after ALL that is called development. And that is EXACTLY what them upstairs want from us. Fresh eyes on a problem.

Have a great weekend!!
