How do you split a video and render only what you want to keep?

I made a video and want to make a clip of just a portion of it. I was able to split it and I cut out what I didn't want but when I render it to save it for sharing, it leaves a black screen in the part I cut. How do I get it to start at the point I want to start and end where I want it to end?

@Sheryl-DeMott Hi, double click the part (event) on the timeline, you can double click & drag if you want to select more than one event, this will create a blue highlighted Loop Region. or right click, hold & drag to create a region, then in the render window you have the choice to Render Loop Region Only.

You can also Render to a new track by right clicking the blue part at the top of the timeline.

--------

PS, if you did something like this (pic below) with Render Loop Region Only selected it will render the blue loop region (it doesn't have to be highlighted blue) making the rendered vid have black.blank bits at the start & finish.

Move the event to the start of the timeline & turn off Render Loop Region Only (it doesn't matter how big the loop region is if that Render Loop Region Only option is turned off, it will only render the events on the timeline, all events). or as I described above double click the event to create a region & Render Loop Region Only.
