How is the Sony Purchase of Vegas etc going to impact things ?

I just read that Sony has purchased the Sonic Foundry Desktop Software Assets...

This includes Vegas, DVD, Acid Pro, Sound Forge and who knows what else.

How is this going to effect things? I just spent a lot of time learning Vegas... not to mention the money.

Are these products doing well with a large user base?

I really think Vegas is a super program and would hate to have to start over with something else.

I don't think Sony are into buying things in order to let them flounder. We should feel vindicated in our choice of software that Sony have chosen the SF range to go with. Now SF software can benefit from increased financial and resourses backing, gand far greater marketing and market exposure.

i'm sure the SF team feel both flattered and envigorated with the new setup !

There have been many, many, MANY posts about this recently, just do a little search through the forums over the past couple months and a lot of your questions will be answered.

"Announcing Volumes 3 and 4 in the Vision Series line
of video assets for Vegas.

Vegas - now brought to you by Sony Pictures Digital - continues
to rock the world of digital..."

Just got this promotion by e-mail. Seems business as usual except for the fact that Sony is now the recognized official owner of Vegas/Sound Forge/ Acid, etc.

Did they get the audio loop libraries also?
Oh man, did Sony ever score.
Hope we did too.
I think we did.
Best wishes to the 70 new Sony Digital Pictures software staff. You guys rock.
Cheers,

Since Sony already has DVD creation software, I wonder what will happen to DVDA?

Well, you know what i heard. Top Sony executives are going to come to everyones house, reformat your hard drives that has vegas installed, and then take your children and perform "Clockwork Orange" type of experiments on them. Why do you think they make you register their products? Think about it people: names, proof of purchase, maybe an address. Its all part of the evil Big corporation conspiracy!!

All kidding aside: speculation about the SOny deal is becoming somewhat of a nuisance on this board. I remember when Vegas 3 was out and everyone was complaing that Vegas would be more popular if only they had more marketing dollars/ better financial shape. Then we find out Sony bought SOFO. Now everyone complains or implies that Sony is too big and will probably ruin the product. Geez....Sony Pictures cant take back Vegas 4 from your hands and make it worse.

Even if they shelve the product line you still have editing skills that carry over to other products. I dont even know why Sony Pictures has such a bad reputation. Its a different division from the Sony corporation and the Sony corporation is not that horrible.

This will be my only post on this topic since i think im contributing to the problem. But for the love of God, Buddah, or whatever the speculation needs to stop. Forums are to help others when they run into trouble with the product. Speculation only wastes space when i run a search and hundreds of posts that i come across deal with gossip. Plus the management team probably doesnt know exactly what is going to happen as of yet. Acquistions take time to evalute the Assets that were purchased.

So you can sleep easy for one more night.

I purchased a Sony Vaio preloaded with their software when I got interested in Editing.

The sony software is the primary reason I bought DVDA. Enough Said.

Sony bought a great asset with SONIC!!!

Thanks for all the comments on this subject. I guess, as useual, I'm the last guy to find out about everything. But then, I am just getting started on Vegas & SF products so it's all news to me.

As far as Sony goes, I'm s big fan... with 2 Sony DV Cams, Sony +/- DVD burner, DVD Players, etc... So I'm not complaining.

And you guys are right, Vegas is one good peice of software and Sony would be nuts to mess with something that "ain't broke" other than give 'em more money to develope and promote.

And I'm bettin' (my cash & time) that they do.

Regards,

Will
