well for four months of the year - and it pays so well it'd carry me through the rest of the year anyway.
the guy who offered me the job said there were only 3 business to be in the 21st century (and this was before the crisis) - the 3 b's: brewing, baking and betting. people will drink their sorrows away, munch a sandwich instead of sushi, and have a bet on a brighter future. he appears to have been right....
that said, i'm like one of the other posters, remote, so there's very little competition, so i haven't noticed any downturn (yet).
i did however have chance to work on a 'serious' wedding project for a local event shooter...
all i can say is i have the deepest admiration for wedding shooters.
a. sound would have a stage director pulling his hair out.
b. continuity is non-existent. are they going to turn left or right? omg! they're walking away from the camera...
c. bloody guests heads appear in frame at the most inopportune times.
d. they think i have a camera that can shot in pitch dark?
e. the food's bloody awful...
keep your chin up, at least we're not sitting on $100k's of equipment like we used to.
Depends where you sit in the business as much as where you are on the planet. I'm a bit of a bottom feeder. Bad times are probably good for me and I'm still getting enough drive by business to keep paying for this hobby.
Rental business I work for is doing very well but the high rollers in the game are bleeding badly. As one economist said the first things business cut back on when dark clouds appear is IT and marketing, mostly because they can.OTA TV is in serious trouble and it'll get worse before it gets better. It all trickles down but some will jump and there should be some bargains to be had if you've got cash.
Dramatic drop in the AUD is hurting though. Had to put plans to buy some nice kit on hold.
