How To alter audio in Vegas MS 6.0

Greetings,
I have Vegas Movie Studio 6.0. THe sound that comes along with a certain clip on my storyline needs to be altered (raise the volume in the middle of this sound clip). THe manual that came along with this software says to add a sound editor. THis is not possible because the "advanced" button in preferences/audio tab is not a active button.THew manual must be gfor this version and a higher verion,,, a combo manual.
Is there any way I can save this one sound clip and use my sound editor and do this out of vegas?
I am a novice with this product so I may need real simple non technical explaination.

Does Vegas MS have envelopes and/or automation ? Check out the help, because that is one way to adjust a section of audio level.

Another way is to Split off the section that needs to be raised, Normalise, and then pull down the split section's level on the timeline.

thank you for your help. I am not too sure what a "envelope" is but I will read the help section. I know if I right click on the sound bit there is a envelope choice, but I have no idea what it does or how to use it .
I like your idea of splitting, however in this 30 second clip there is a "crash noise" in the middle that i got to increase the volume . Is there a way to increase this small split? I see the master volume slide on the left side of timeframe, but how do you increase gain with this on this isolated clip? Everytime I try it increases all the clips volumes accrross the timeline.

To insert a Volume envelope, select the track then hit the "V" key on your keyboard... or select:Insert> Audio Envelope> Volume, You should see a straght horizontal line through the waveform. Double-click the line to add volume points, then click and drag the points or the line up or down to increase/decrease the level. To remove points; right-click the point and select delete.

I do not have Vegas MS, some of the features may differ from the full version.
