How to Backup/Image your working System Drive

diverG wrote on 7/30/2017, 6:49 AM

Browsing through the Grass Valley (Edius) forum I came across this video/tutorial on preparing a 'rescue' disc using Macrium Reflect (free).    It works!!

For those unfamiliar with programs akin of Acronis and Macrium it is well worth watching.

I used Macrium (Free) for about a year. Loved it so much I bought a 4-seat license. Great software for image backups and restoration!

I researched image backup software a few months ago as I wanted to replace Acronis TrueImage which had become bloated and interfered with my system too much. For me it came down to Macrium Reflect Free vs Aomei Backupper Standard (which @john_dennis drew my attention to). I went with Aomei, although I can't remember exactly why I made that choice. So far so good, but I haven't done much restoring of images yet. I noticed that my Aomei images are slightly larger than those created by TrueImage (with max compression).

Based on this topic, let me try with Macrium Reflect Free....

Currently rebuilding my OS and still waiting for Win10 updates downloaded right now.... (Ugh, so large download and felt slow 🐢)

After Win updates completely downloaded, make first backup!

I too use this and find it very convenient, but I believe this is soon to be discontinued with MSoft recommending you use a 3rd party solution.

I make double backup of fresh-installed Win10 + latest updates. (One Win10 default, and another using Macrium)
