How to BCC Title build-in preview show all tracks of VEGAS like AVID?

rock-c wrote on 7/4/2020, 9:08 AM

Add a BCC Title studio to empty event of top track.

Then how to make BCC Title studio's build-in preview window show tracks ( beneath top track ) of VEGAS as background? So as to adjust title position.

In Avid event FX, BCC Title studio's build-in preview window can show all other tracks of Avid as background :. But It seems Vegas can't do that :.

A statement of BCC's Senior Product Manager: https://forum.borisfx.com/t/vegas-17-and-bcc-title-studio-composite-over-background/8437/5

So what I’m hearing from you is that you would like to have the same level of functionality with regard to bringing in alternate host video tracks in Title Studio in Vegas as we do in Avid. In Avid we can pull up video tracks from beneath the title studio filter track in the host timeline to use as a template against which we can position the titles that we’re generating. In Vegas because we can’t pull up a video clip from tracks below the filter this is a problem for you. If the Vegas OFX API will allow us to do that then I see no reason why we would not implement this feature. I’ll add it to the feature wish list and discuss it with engineering - thanks for highlighting this deficiency.

Meanwhile, there are a couple of things that you can do as a workaround.

Apply the filter directly to the background source in the timeline, then once you have the title set up, save the project, delete the filter, apply a fresh instance of title studio to the empty event and load up the saved preset. Then you can use the host-side filter transforms to fine tune the position of the title over the video. This was already been mentioned in the comments above from Jezric.

Or …

Create a second instance of the background video on a new event track above itself. Then apply the title studio filter to that event (instead of an empty event) and you’ll (a) be able to see the video while working with the title in the Title Studio UI and (b) it will be a discrete title on its own event track and independent of the background video, just like you needed.

Thanks,
Peter.

Why Vegas api doesn't allow event fx plugins access other tracks, so that BCC Title studio's preview window can show all other tracks as background?

Does this api restrict make many high-end plugins not compatible with Vegas Pro? Just like BCC Title Studio can't show all other tracks as background. Just like Mocha Pro in event fx can't attach other track's image to it.

BorisFX have clearly stated that they will investigate a resolution to that issue. Apparently that is not enough for you - it's just another to opportunity to criticize Vegas Pro - ENOUGH for heavens sake!

@Dexcon  No no no, I mean Vegas should open its api restrict so that more and more high-end plugins can support it. like Red Giant plugins, Twixtor pro & Twixtor vector, and so on.... So that Vegas can become mainstream, industry-reconized.

 Vegas should open its api

Yes, I couldn't agree more. And Red Giant has some great products which would be great additions to Vegas Pro.

Generated media cannot see events on other tracks. For example, Titler Pro is available as both a Generated Media and VideoFX. If you apply a Generated Media, it cannot see a video clip on another track. If you apply the VideoFX to a video event, then it can show the background video. That's just a matter of the way Vegas works.

@jetdv In a decent project, background is made up of all other tracks, not only a background video event.

That's just a matter of the way Vegas works.

This matter is not only the way vegas works but also all NLE. But this matter is far from enough if you want to do some decent videos but not a cinch.

So apart from this matter, Avid and Premiere, and more NLE's event fx all can access other tracks So that more high-end plugins can support these NLE.

Vegas must open its api restrict so that plugins are able to access other tracks. Such as BCC Title Studio. This will make Vegas supported by more high-end plugins and more complete feature.

@rock-c, not arguing with you, just explaining how it works. There is no way for a Generated Media to see all tracks below it at this time.

@Reyfox That thread indicates this problem only occur in VEGAS Pro but not Avid, Promiere, Resolve, Because of VEGAS Pro's OFX api's restrict and flaw.

Hope this problem can cause everybody's attention.
