How to convert m4a to work with Vegas Pro 12

RickyB wrote on 10/27/2013, 8:57 PM
I'm a simple novice & have been able to import mp3 audio files into Vegas Pro 12 but my m4a (MPEG 4 audio) from my phone only hangs up the program. There appears to be a lot of free apps online but don't know about viruses etc. I trust Sony & was hoping someone could direct me to a safe download sight.
I'm surprised that Vegas Pro 12 does not appear to convert. Maybe I'm missing something obvious. Thanks

Sorry I don't have VP12 or other VP versions available right now . Make sure any accompanying video or other files are in the same folder. You could try changing the extension to <.mp4>
M4a files open without issue in SF.

Thanks for your input. I'm so new I don't know what you meant when you referred to "SF". Take care.

SF = Sony SoundForge

Don't have V12 with me at the moment, but a .m4a file loads up fine into Vegas Pro 10 here.

Maybe you are lacking a codec, do you have iTunes installed/updated ? Here's another one :

You could also try installing Quicktime.

Rewrap as mp4 using AVIDemux. That should fix it.

Definitely a quicktime issue
