Bring the playhead/cursor back to the very beginning of the time line. Click and drag the mouse ABOVE the cursor until you come to the beginning of the video. You should have a blue bar stretching from the zero point on the timeline to the start of the video

On the top of the toolbar there is an Auto-Ripple button. To the right of it is an arrow that offers three dropdown choices. To be safe pick the one that says "all tracks, regions and markers" (or words to that effect, I don't have VMS in front of me right now).

Press the delete key and it will delete the space in front of your video and move everything down in sync. Usually I set the Auto Ripple first and then create the region. Make sure you turn the auto ripple off when you're done, otherwise things may get colorful during your next editing session.

Thanks

Sounds like you know this product.

Does Sony sell a more detailed How To DVD I can buy?
The Jump Start Tutorial DVD that came with the Box is great but I want more details. Go deeper into what this software can do.

Thanks,
Scott

I've got books available on Amazon.com for both Sony Movie Studio HD Platinum 11 and DVD Architect Studio 5, if you're interested.

They're simple, step-by-step books -- and they're getting some very nice reviews!

You can see some of my free Basic Training tutorials for Vegas Movie Studio HD here.

Slightly easier than dragging is to simply double-click on a track in that empty space. That will select exactly that space for you. Then press Delete.

Also, 5 minutes space at the beginning is probably unnecessary. With auto-ripple on it's as easy as a simple drag on the first clip on the timeline to move everything farther down the line if you need more room. Even without auto-ripple, Ctrl-A to select everything will then let you drag it all in one piece, left or right.

I followed your procedure to delete empty space at the start of my video. I deleted some scenes and want to move the entire video/audio to the left. I have the blue bar and auto ripple all tracks selected, but when I press the delete key, nothing happens. What am I missing?

Try double-clicking on a track in that empty area to select it. Then press delete.

Why not got to 'EDIT' then 'SELECT ALL' and drag everything at once to the left? Assuming you have the audios, everything will be synched as well.
